With a couple of Dad's Army type games coming up I have finally finished off the Warlord Games Dad's Army figures. The figures of them in uniform were finished mid way through last year.

Anyway, here they are in their civilian clothes along with their LDV armbands.

Warbases, Garden set 1

With plans to run a couple of Dad's Army games soon we decided that there was a need for more bits and bobs around the buildings. With that in mind Geoff bought the two garden sets made by Warbases. As this was my game, I felt that I should help out a bit and said I would make up one of the sets for him.

Really enjoyed making these and adding the details. They went together beautifully and really do help to make those skirmish games look the part.

Somewhere in the Crimea.

Our recent Friday night game was based during the Crimean War.

The Russian army advances on two strongholds, one held by a small army from Sardinia and the other by the Turks.

The Sardinian held hill top.

The Turkish held redoubt.

The Russians have to attack swiftly before....

....the British arrive on the battlefield.

With some good luck the Russians take the redoubt.

On the Russian left flank things are going a little slower for them.

Eventually the Sardinian Army give way to the mass of Russians.

For the Russians it was just in time as the British make their appearance on the battlefield.

Russian cossacks slow up the British advance.

Over on the Russian left the British advance has bogged down.

but back at the redoubt the weight of British numbers begins to tell and they recapture the redoubt.

In the end the British save the day.  A very close game.

The rules were Volley and Bayonet and the figures were from Adrian's very fine collection.

WW2 in 20mm

A recent game with some of the lads.

Based on the battle at Antwerp in WW2 the Allies are trying to capture a port near Antwerp held by the Germans.

The town was one of the main objectives for the Allies.

Bunkers on either side of the table were also objectives.

No shortage of anti tank guns.

The landings begin.

The Allies pressed forward toward their objectives as fast as possible.

The left hand German position was heavily mined

and plenty of troops too.

The attack on the German left . Already the Allies are suffering.

On the German right, the sea wall is being crossed.

Allies slowly move forward towards the town.

Some air support arrives just in time.

More damage to the Germans on the return flight.

The town is in Allied hands. Just the bunkers to go.

The mine field has proven costly for the Allies.

The Allies reach the bunker but with heavy casualties morale is low and the Germans hold on.

On the other side, with the town in Allied control, attention has been directed toward the bunker. With virtually nothing left to harm the Churchills it was now only a matter of time for these two bad boys to mop up all remaining German resistance.
